Kalee Appleton, current MFA student, has been chosen to exhibit in the “Remains To Be Seen: Alternative Process and Manipulated Photography” exhibition at Lore Degenstein Gallery at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. The exhibition will be on view August 31 to October 5, 2013. Kalee is one of 11 artists chosen for the show by curator Adam Dienst-Scott.

SPE Scholarship Oppertunity

SPE student members can apply for scholarships to offset the cost of attending SPE’s 2014 national conference in Baltimore March 6-9, 2014. All awards include a 2014 national conference fee waiver and a one-year membership to SPE.
THE SPE AWARD FOR INNOVATIONS IN IMAGING
The SPE Award for Innovations in Imaging is open to all eligible students working primarily with digital technology and is designated for work only possible because of emerging digital technologies-no alternative processes or gelatin silver prints. A project description describing how the work is possible as a result of emerging digital technologies is required as part of the submission process. Jurors will seek to award work that demonstrates the most innovative, unique, and freshest uses of digital technologies. One award is offered and includes a $500 travel stipend to attend the national conference.

PREPARE TO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING
- A cohesive body of work with no more than FIVE images. Images around 1280 x 1280 px @ 72 ppi are ideal for good image quality and fast upload
- A succinct artist statement of 200 words or less
- A statement addressing how attendance at the conference will benefit you, as well as an overview of prior involvement with SPE or other arts organizations
- A description of the conceptual basis of your work and its technical qualities, including a description of processes used
- A brief resume, including name, address, phone number, email address and current institutional affiliation, and educational and professional experience
- Contact information for a current photography professor (include name, title, email, and phone number)

Susan will be recognized as the society’s Honored Educator at the 51st SPE National Conference, Collaborative Exchanges: Photography in Dialogue, to be held March 6-9, 2014 in Baltimore, MD.

Unfolding Images: Call for Entries at Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans

The Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans (CAC) presents Unfolding Images: A photobook exhibition juried by Seth Curcio, associate director of Pier 24 Photography. All (18+) are encouraged to apply. Unfolding Images will take place December 2 through December 30, 2013 at the CAC. Organized to celebrate the printed image in book form, through photography and repurposed images, Unfolding Images will be designed as a functioning library and reading room, allowing visitors the opportunity to review the selected books in person at the CAC during PhotoNOLA 2013. All books will be evaluated based on the strength of the individual photographs or images, the editing and sequencing of images, layout and design, and the photobook as a physical object. Both self-published and commercially published books, created after January 1, 2012 are eligible.

SPESC SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENT MEMBERS:
SPE South Central invites applications for scholarships to support student attendance at the 2013 Regional
SPE Conference in Houston/Texas City, TX, October 17-20, 2013.
PURPOSE: SPESC region encourages participation in SPE conferences
PURPOSE: SPESC region encourages participation in SPE conferences to introduce talented students to
the dynamic culture and programs of SPE. By defraying travel expenses of attendance, SPESC invites a
broad regional audience of qualified students to participate in the activities and values of our organization.
QUALIFICATIONS: SPESC seeks current student members of our SPE region who can articulately
demonstrate his or her intent to travel to the conference. Preference is given to students who provide
examples of extra-curricular activities with photography program, SPE, or other relevant group or activity.
Winners must be in attendance at the conference to receive the award.
FACULTY SUPPORT: Supporting faculty are no longer required to provide written letters of support.
However, faculty should be notified and willing to support the applications as a reference. Applicants must
provide accurate contact information including name, title, phone, and email. If needed, board members will
contact faculty to confirm applications.
INSTRUCTIONS: Please follow the guidelines exactly so that application is not disqualified:
1. Formal letter of application. Letter should detail level of education, involvement with SPE or related
activities, and brief description of artwork. Student should also illustrate reasons why he or she
should be selected for the scholarship.
2. Please create a single pdf file that contains:
• The letter of application.
• Faculty reference information (name, title, phone, and email of a faculty member).
• A direct link to one image gallery on your spenational.org profile.
i. You will need to be a current member to create and link to a gallery.
ii. The URL in your application should link directly to the gallery.
iii. Applications that do not link directly to an SPE Members Gallery link will not be
considered.
