February 12 – March 5, 2014 at Brookhaven College in the Studio Gallery

Leigh Merrill constructs photographs of the urban landscape positioned between reality and fantasy. Digitally reassembled from photographs of the quotidian structures or urban life, the constructed character of the photographs reiterated the constructed, fragmentary built environment. Leigh Merrill received the B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM and the M.F.A. from Mills College. Merrill’s work has been a part of exhibitions throughout the United States including the Phoenix Art Museum, the diRosa Art Preserve, The Lawndale Art Center, Women and Their Work Gallery, the Tremaine Gallery, and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. Merrill was a part of the 2011 Fotographia Festival Internazionale di Roma at the Galleria Gallerati in Rome, Italy. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Texas Tech University, the City of Phoenix, the California Institute of Integral Studies and private collections.

Sat Jan 18 2014 — Mon Jun 02 2014 at The Crow Collection

“As one of India’s premier artists, Vivan Sundaram brings his family legacy into contemporary times. Born in 1943 in Simla, Sundaram has had a long career, beginning with his formal training in painting at the Slade School in London. He works in a range of mediums, including painting, installation, assemblage, photography, digital media, and film. Activism has always been a strong component of his work and his life. He was instrumental in the establishment of Sahmat and the Kasauli Art Centre, organizations that brought together politically conscious artists, writers, activists, and thinkers in the 1970s and continue their efforts to the present day.”
