Ahsley Whitt: The Haunted Mind

Screen Shot 2014-08-14 at 10.20.49 AM

August 25 – September 25, 2014
Reception: August 29, 6:00 – 8:30 pm

Drawing from a fascination with death, film noir, and experience in her own life Ashley Whitt’s The Haunted Mind examines the subtle mirroring between reality and dream states.  Her photographs are visual representations of fear and anxiety that allude to the symbiotic nature of conscious and unconscious, the outer self and the inner self.  Heightening this fragmentation between dream and reality is Whitt’s use of alternative photographic techniques which blur and distort the image creating a dreamlike aesthetic.
Ashley has a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Texas Women’s University and currently teaches in Dallas. In addition to being exhibited locally, Ashley’s work has been included in group exhibitions in Vermont, California, China, and India.
