Books Arts Call for Shircliff Gallery of Art Vincennes University

The Shircliff Gallery of Art invites book arts and illustration submissions for an upcoming group exhibition. The exhibition dates are Monday, August 18 – Thursday, September 11, 2014.
For consideration, please submit the following:

  •  jpegs of work (72 resolution, 1500 pixels on longest side)
  •  image list – title, medium, dimensions, date, notes on special display instructions
  •  brief bio
  • short statement on work
  •  updated CV

Email submissions due to mwillingham@vinu.edu by Monday, July 7, 2014. No entry fee required. No limit on the number of entries for consideration. Artists are responsible for shipping work to the gallery. Gallery will handle cost of return shipping.
One or more artists may be invited to give a lecture or workshop during the exhibition.

This Exhibit will be part of the 2014 NorthWest Symposium for Alternative Process Photography hosted by LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, Oregon from September 12 -14th, 2014. We are honored to have S. Gayle Stevens, photographic educator and one of the nations’ finest alternative process photographic artists, as juror for this Exhibit.

JURORS: Ann Jastrab & Judy Walgren
Ann Jastrab is currently the Gallery Director at RayKo Photo Center. The RayKo Gallery offers over 1600 square feet of exhibition space and presents eight to ten shows annually featuring many nationally recognized artists. Ann has curated numerous exhibitions for RayKo as well as juried exhibitions for the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Artspan, SFAI, the Center for Fine Art Photography, and other national and international venues outside of San Francisco. She has reviewed portfolios at the Seoul International Photography Festival in Korea, Fotofest, Photolucida, GuatePhoto, Review Santa Fe, Review LA, PhotoAlliance (Our World), SPE, Medium, Palm Springs Photo Festival, Filter, Lishui International Photography Festival in China, and Click646 as well as being a juror for Critical Mass. She has also been teaching courses at the Maine Media Workshops (formerly the Maine Photographic Workshops) in Rockport, Maine since 1994.

Judy Walgren took the helm as director of photography at the San Francisco Chronicle in December 2010. Under her watch, her team has won numerous national and international photo and photo editing awards, including a 2014 Pulitzer finalist position for feature photography and first place in the Best of Photojournalism Awards for their photo editing portfolio. Walgren, herself, holds a Pulitzer in International Reporting along with a team of Dallas Morning News writers and photographers who chronicled violent human rights abuses against women worldwide. During her career, she has photographed wars in Somalia and Sudan, styled and shot incredible food for amazing chefs, co-produced documentaries on tribal elders in northern Kenya and is presently raising a son, Theo, 8, and their Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Stella, as well. She is also in the process of earning her Masters in Fine Art from the Vermont College of Fine Art.

Entry Fee (non-refundable): $30/up to 3 images. $5/additional image up to 10 images.

• Limit 10 images per person
• All entries must be jpegs, not bigger than 3MB, minimum 1200pixels on longest side (up to 2000 pixels maximum)
• Save files with artist’s last name, first name and image title
Example: Smith_Jane_Pigeons01.jpg
• Any work deemed misrepresented by its digital file will be declined

NOTIFICATION
Notification of juried results will be mailed or emailed on July 3, 2014.

SUBMISSION OF ACCEPTED WORK
Accepted artists will be invited to send or deliver actual work. All work must be framed or mounted with a wire affixed and ready to hang. NO SAW TOOTH HANGERS. Entries are handled with great care, however, RayKo assumes no liability for work on its premises. All selected works must be for sale. RayKo retains 40% commission on all photographs sold, so price accordingly. Selected images may be used for promotion of the exhibition.

ELIGIBILITY
All work must be original. Works previously shown at RayKo are not eligible. The juried exhibition is open to all photographers, national and international.

Kalee Appleton, current MFA photography student, will be one of eight participating artists in the 897 Square Exhibition, juried by Cris Worley, at Gallery 76102. An Opening Reception for the exhibition will be at Gallery 76102 on June 12, 2014, 6pm-8pm. The exhibition will run June 12 – July 31, 2014. Additionally, Kalee was awarded the first prize in this exhibition and will receive a solo exhibition, which will run during October and November 2014.

Announcing 500x’s annual unjuried OPEN SHOW!

Entry fee – $10 per work
Size limit – 48″ maximum on the longest side

500X staff will be on hand to assist in placing and hanging work. All work must have adequate hanging hardware- wire or D-rings, works that are not fit for display will not be accepted.Pedestals available first-come first-serve.

All media accepted, video/sound/electronic works must have all equipment provided by artist.

30% commission on all sales.

All participating artists must sign the contract stipulating the full terms of exhibition in the gallery.

Drop Off: May 30th & June 1st Noon-5pm
Payment due at drop off

Opening: June 14th 7-10pm
Show runs: June 14th- June 21st
Pick up: June 21st 5-8pm & June 22nd noon-5pm

Work not picked up by June 22nd or other arrangements made by June 22nd will be discarded.
