641DB5F1-3EEC-46C8-B5CA-F00717D4F2AC

February 12 – March 5, 2014 at Brookhaven College in the Studio Gallery

Leigh Merrill constructs photographs of the urban landscape positioned between reality and fantasy. Digitally reassembled from photographs of the quotidian structures or urban life, the constructed character of the photographs reiterated the constructed, fragmentary built environment. Leigh Merrill received the B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM and the M.F.A. from Mills College. Merrill’s work has been a part of exhibitions throughout the United States including the Phoenix Art Museum, the diRosa Art Preserve, The Lawndale Art Center, Women and Their Work Gallery, the Tremaine Gallery, and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. Merrill was a part of the 2011 Fotographia Festival Internazionale di Roma at the Galleria Gallerati in Rome, Italy. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Texas Tech University, the City of Phoenix, the California Institute of Integral Studies and private collections.

Crusade for Art Grant

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 1.12.54 PM

Due April 1, 2014

The Crusade Engagement Grant supports photographers to develop and implement an innovative and effective way to connect audiences to their work. We are looking for projects that focus on creating demand for photography and provide a concrete plan to create one-to-one connections between the photographer, the viewer, and the audience.

We believe that there is an elaborate and well-funded support system available today on the “supply” side of the art industry – grants, workshops, MFA programs, photo reviews – but not enough effort or support on the “demand” side. We are looking for the most creative and original ideas to create and foster demand for fine art photography. We are looking to break new ground here, and believe that artists themselves are best positioned to conduct these experiments.  That is why the grant size is substantial.
