Hey, students and educators!

The PDNedu team has re-launched the Student Photo Contest call-for-entries site for the 2016 edition, and we’re excited to publish new work from students around the world. We are offering a very affordable early-bird entry fee through November 9 at $15 per entry (up to six images). The regular deadline period extends through December 15 at $18 per entry.

The contest is aimed to help you get your foot in the door while you’re still in school, giving exposure to your photography through a print gallery in the Spring 2016 issue of PDNedu (sent to 50,000 readers) and an online gallery, promoted to PDN‘s network of 200,000 followers.

There are some pretty cool prizes, too. Grand-prize winners, one per category, will each receive a Nikon DSLR camera, $150 to B&H Photo and Video and a portfolio consultation. Categories include Fashion & Portraiture, Documentary, Still Life, Travel & Landscape, Fine Art & Personal Work, Multimedia & Video, and High School (any subject).

Undergrad, graduate, high school and certificate program students are all welcome to enter. Educators are also eligible to receive a discount on bulk entries. Feel free to contact me directly at jacquelyn.palumbo@emeraldexpo.com for general questions, while technical support questions can be directed to info@pdncontests.com.

You can see the current list of judges and the complete prize packages at contest.pdnedu.com. There, you’ll also findrules, FAQ, last year’s winners’ gallery and more.

Gordon Stettinius, Featured Artist for the 2016 Plastic Camera Show
RayKo’s 9th Annual International Juried Plastic Camera Show

It’s that time of year again! Go get some 120 film and dust off your Diana! RayKo’s plastic camera competition is open to artists working with plastic cameras with plastic lenses. The more obsolete, flawed, and lo-tech, the better. Images should be taken with cameras with limited controls, such as, but not limited to Diana, Holga, Lubitel, Lomo, Banner, and Ansco cameras. Beautiful prints from less-than-gorgeous cameras – that’s what we’re looking for!  This is RayKo’s largest exhibition of the year with artists from all over the globe submitting work! We’re excited to see this year’s entries! Long live film!

The Mind’s Eye

To take photographs means to recognize – simultaneously and within a fraction of a second – both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one’s head, one’s eye and one’s heart on the same axis”.
