Amblewood Gallery is pleased to announce the Open: 2015 International Photography Exhibition. Anne Berry, internationally known and collected, fine art photographer, will be the Juror for this Open Theme Exhibition. Amblewood Gallery is located in the heart of Serenbe, a progressive community connected to nature and the arts just south of Atlanta, Georgia. The community of Serenbe has been featured in The Smithsonian Magazine, The New York Times, Southern Living, Garden and Guns, and many more publications. Serenbe is built on the arts, love of nature, and a sense for sustainability. We have an enthusiastic group of collectors and clients locally. The Open: 2015 Exhibition will also coincide with the 2015 Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival. Amblewood Gallery is one of 120 participating venues. Atlanta Celebrates Photography is the largest annual community-oriented photo festival in the United States. We welcome your photography submissions.

About the Juror
Anne Berry is a photographic artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Anne’s continuing long-term project, Behind Glass, depicts primates in captivity, but the photographs are not about the environment but about the essence of the animals. Anne believes that photography contains the power to evoke empathy and that caring motivates action. Her work is currently featured in Gente di Fotografia (Italy) and has also been published in Photoworld (China), F-Stop Magazine, Slate Magazine/Behold, Shots Magazine, Photo District News, The Portfolio Review, CNN Photos, and Black + White. Anne is a PhotoLucida Critical Mass 2012 and 2013 Top 50 and a 2014 Clarence John Laughlin Award finalist and Honorable Mention. She is represented by the Catherine Couturier Gallery in Houston. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Lamar Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College and the Center for Fine Art Photography.

Eligibility
Amblewood Gallery invites photographers from around the world working in all mediums, styles, and schools of thought to participate. This is an open theme exhibition. Artwork must be photography-based and 20 inches or less in height and width. Photographers must be age 18 or older.

Notification of Acceptance
All applicants will be notified by email on September 29, 2015. A list of accepted artists will be posted on Amblewood Gallery website.

Accepted Photographs for Exhibition

All images chosen for the exhibition will be printed through Amblewood Gallery by a professional printer using archival pigment ink and dry mounted for the exhibition. This greatly simplifies logistics and cost for the entrant. The maximum height and/or width will not exceed 20 inches. Exhibition prints will be kept on file for up to a year for future promotion unless the photographer prefers some other arrangement.

Print Service

We print images up to 20 inches to maximize impact at the exhibition. The process is easy:
Save your file at 300dpi. Save as JPG maximum quality, file size less than 20MB.
Email the file to Amblewood Gallery (submissions@amblewoodgallery.com). Write “print service and [your name]” in the subject line of your email.
Specify the size you’d like your image printed, up to 20 inches on longest side, or let Amblewood Gallery choose the size.
Amblewood Gallery will email you a PayPal invoice for $35 for printing and mounting.
Promptly send payment for the invoice so we can print, mount, and hang your image in time for the show.
After the exhibit, all prints remain available for viewing at the gallery. At your request, we can ship the print to you after the show has concluded. Simply send an email to carla@amblewoodgallery within 7 days of exhibition closing. Write “shipping and [your name]” in the subject line of your email. Shipping costs vary by state and country. A Paypal invoice will be emailed to you accordingly.

Sales and Commission
All work accepted for gallery exhibition will be for sale unless otherwise noted by the artist. Amblewood Gallery will retain a 35% commission on the sale of any work. Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 30 days of the close of the show.

500X Gallery, Texas’ oldest, artist–run, cooperative galleries, hosts one of North Texas’ most anticipated annual juried competitions. Expo 2015 is open to all artists over the age of 18 living in Texas. All visual media are eligible, including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and video (artist must supply all required electronic equipment). All work must be ready to hang.

About the juror: Erin Cluley is the owner and director of Erin Cluley Gallery, a contemporary art gallery presenting a provocative program of emerging and mid-career artists from Dallas and the United States. Cluley opened the 2000 square foot space in September 2014, joining a creative movement in the West Dallas/ Trinity Groves development at the foot of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.  For five years prior to opening her gallery, Cluley served as the Director of Exhibitions for Dallas Contemporary where she worked on the production of exhibitions by widely known, and often envelope-pushing, artists including Rob Pruitt, Juergen Teller, K8 Hardy, Erwin Wurm, Jennifer Rubell, Shepard Fairey, Inez & Vinoodh, Julian Schnabel, Richard Phillips and others.  Cluley is a native of Wichita Falls, Texas where she received her BFA from Midwestern State University.  She went on to receive her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.

Artists may enter up to 3 images/videos (including details) for a total submission fee of $30.

Delivery of work is the responsibility of the artist and must be delivered on the designated dates, unless special arrangements are made. Work can be delivered on September 26th or 27th between 2 PM and 5 PM.

Artists will be notified via email Sunday, September 20th if the work has been accepted into the exhibition.  If you do not receive an email, your work has not been accepted. Please do not try to contact anyone if you do not receive notice.

Congratulations to Texas Woman’s University Alumnae, Sheryl Anaya and Kalee Appleton, for their 500X Gallery Member exhibition, X Proof | Member’s Show. The exhibition runs from September 5 – 20, 2015.

500X is ready to kick off the new season with the annual members show. Welcoming the addition of it’s newest members, this group of emerging DFW artists will be showcasing a range of traditional and contemporary art. Works ranging from photography, printmaking, textile, installation, painting, video, performance, and conceptual works investigate a variety of content and formal concerns. These 16 active artists have ties to and have collaborated with other artist groups such as Art Conspiracy, aphophenia underground, Deep Ellum Windows, Gallery Project in Detroit, Hatch Show Print, Performance SW, Oil and Cotton, and Wild Pony Editions, to name a few. They work in the community as educators, coaches, professionals, and mentors across the DFW area. They work and are involved with institutions such as UNT, Brookhaven College, UTA, Collin College, Richland College, TCU, Dallas Public Library, Modern Art Museum of Forth Worth, and Urban Outfitters.

As the oldest artist run co-op in Texas, the idea of collaboration, finding fresh talent and building community is what this current group hopes to continue to foster. Come out to the first show of the 2015 season, X Proof.

Sheryl completed her BFA in Photography and Sculpture at Texas Woman’s University in 2013. She is currently a Member of 500x Gallery and the Editorial Assistant for Light Leaked, an online photography journal.

Kalee is a photography-based artist and educator living in Dallas, Texas. Originally from Hobbs, NM, she attended Texas Tech University and received a BFA in Photography in 2005. Shortly after graduated she worked as a commercial corporate and aviation photographer before attending Texas Woman’s University, where she received an MFA in Photography in 2014.

VISITING ARTIST: ALEC SOTH – GATHERED LEAVES

The Department of Art + Art History at The University of Texas at Arlington is pleased to announce the First Annual Arlington Camera Lecture Series sponsored by Arlington Camera. The series launches at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in room 148 of the Fine Arts Building, 700 Greek Row Drive.

The event features Alec Soth, a Minneapolis-based photographer known for his photographs and many publications.  He will discuss his newest project, “Gathered Leaves”, in conversation with his friend and colleague Anne Wilkes Tucker.

Soth’s photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney and São Paulo Biennials. Soth’s first monograph, Sleeping by the Mississippi, was published by Steidl in 2004 to critical acclaim. Since then Soth has published NIAGARA(2006), Fashion Magazine (2007) Dog Days, Bogotá (2007) The Last Days of W (2008), andBroken Manual (2010). In 2008, a large survey exhibition of Soth’s work was exhibited at Jeu de Paume in Paris and Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland. The Walker Art Center produced a large survey exhibition of Soth’s work entitled From Here To There in 2010 and since that time Soth has been the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship (2013).

Tucker recently retired from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston where she served as founding curator of the photography department. It was for her work there that Tucker was named America’s Best Curator by TIME magazine in 2001. Over the course of her career at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Tucker organized or co-organized more than 40 exhibitions, including landmark presentations that helped define scholarship of underexplored areas of the medium. These include Czech Modernism: 1900–1945 (1989), The History of Japanese Photography (2003), and the currently touring WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath (2012), an unprecedented exploration of war through the eyes of photographers. She has also authored dozens of publications, including theWAR/PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition catalogue, which received the prestigious 2013 Kraszna-Krausz Book Award for best photography book.
