Congratulations to Deedra Baker for having being selected as a member of Index of Refraction. Index of Refraction is a communally governed online gallery and webstore for up and coming photographers. Entries are accepted quarterly and are voted on by current members. Their aim is to provide a central site where unestablished photographers can show their work to a broader audience. Take a look at her work here.

Deedra received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011, from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. She is currently working toward a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts with a Photography Concentration and Intermedia Secondary Concentration at Texas Woman’s University.

Congratulations Texas Woman’s University Alumnus, Arthur Fields, for his appointment as Assistant Professor of Art and Design and Director of the Shircliff Gallery of Art at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana

Arthur Fields earned a BFA in Digital Imaging and Photography at Washington University in St. Louis in 2008, and an MFA in Photography in 2011, at Texas Woman’s University. Arthur is Adjunct Professor of communications design in the Art Department at Brookhaven College.

Congratulations Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Leah Gose, for her appointment as Assistant Professor of Photography in the Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Leah M. Gose is a visual artist specializing in photography and book arts. She is an Assistant Professor of Photography at KCAD. Leah holds a B.A. in photography from the University of Colorado – Boulder and an M.F.A. in photography from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.

Congratulations Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Elva Maria Salinas, for her appointment as Photography Teacher at Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School in Indiana University in Boerne, Texas.

Elva Maria Salinas is an artist and an artistic educator currently living in San Antonio, TX. Elva grew up in Del Rio, TX, a small town on the U.S./Mexico border, which gave her a unique insight and perspective of both Mexican and American culture.

Elva received an M.F.A in Photography in May 2013 from Texas Woman’s University. Previous to that, she earned a B.F.A in Photography at The University of the Incarnate Word in 2007.

Congratulations Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Morgan Ford Willingham, for her appointment as Assistant Professor of Photography at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Morgan Ford Willingham, a South Carolina native. Her work addresses social issues dealing with women’s self-image through the examination of the impact of advertising and societal pressures. Her work was exhibited in three solo exhibitions in 2011. Curator and artist Deborah Willis selected her for En Foco’s New Works Photography Award #12.

Congratulations Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Elizabeth M. Claffey, for her appointment as Assistant Professor of Photography at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Elizabeth M. Claffey is an Assistant Professor of Photography at Indiana University in Bloomington.  She is an honors graduate of Earlham College and has an MFA in photography from Texas Woman’s University, where she also earned a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies.  She received a 2012-13 William J. Fulbright Fellowship, which she used to support her documentary and creative research in Eastern Europe.

JUROR | Elizabeth Avedon
Elizabeth Avedon is an independent curator and book + exhibition designer. The former Director of Photo-Eye Gallery, Santa Fe and Creative Director for The Gere Foundation, she has received awards and recognition for her exhibition design and publishing projects, including the retrospective exhibition and book: Avedon: 1949–1979 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many others. She recently curated the exhibitions of Nicholas Vreeland and Magdalena Solé at New York’s Leica Gallery. Elizabeth is a regular contributor to L’Oeil de la Photographie.

HONORS | AWARDS
All selected artists are invited to join us at the reception with Elizabeth Avedon. An international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography will view the chosen artist’s work throughout the exhibition. Each participant is included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition in Fort Collins, Colorado and Online Gallery exhibition.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY
Founded in 2004 by photographers, The Center for Fine Art Photography is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) photography organization. We provide support to photographic artists through exhibition, solo exhibition, promotion, portfolio reviews, publication, education and connection to a large community of other artists, curators, gallery owners and photographic professionals. Open Tues-Sat, Always Free, public welcome.

SUBMISSION | ENTRY FEE
MEMBERS | $24 for the three images.
NON-MEMBERS | $38 for the first three images.
ADDITIONAL IMAGES may be submitted for $8 each for members and $10 each for non-members. There is no limit to the number of images that may be submitted. Applicants signing up for membership at the time they submit will receive the automatic discounted entry fee.
Note: Images selected by jurors for exhibition at the Center in the previous 12 months are NOT eligible. Images previously submitted but not yet selected for exhibition may be resubmitted.

Eligibility: Our calls for entry are open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate.
Exhibit Prints: In order to be included in the online gallery or to receive an award, you must provide a professionally printed and framed/mounted image for gallery exhibition. The Center recognizes that some work is non traditional and incorporates the framing as an integral part of the presentation. To encourage participation by photographers from around the world, the Center offers optional, professional, printing and framing services. Additional details will be provided upon request.
Acceptance Notice: Everyone who submits will receive an email notification of which images were accepted. Accepted images will be posted on the Center’s website.

USE RIGHTS: Each artist retains all copyrights to their own images. Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant The Center for Fine Art Photography the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, promoting the Center’s programs, promoting exhibitions and subsequent display on the Center’s website of current and past exhibitions. Promotions and images may also be placed on social networks for The Center for Fine Art Photography with artist credit. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from the Center.

ABOUT

Renewed, inspired and stronger, the International Festival of Photography GuatePhoto reaches its third edition, now with a wider scope and participatory.

The cities of Guatemala and Antigua Guatemala will become during the month of November 2015 in scenarios dedicated to contemporary photographic creation; gathering the talent of established and emergent artists, critics, cultural agents, institutions and the general public.

GuatePhoto International Festival of Photography aims to educate, promote, document and celebrate contemporary photography through diverse exhibitions, artist talks, portfolios reviews and other dynamic events and positions itself as one of Latin America’s top photography festivals.

We are experiencing a fortunate moment for the arts and photography in Guatemala with the emergence of new talents, young aesthetics, transgressive ideas and fresh spaces. These happenings have paved the way to generate the ideal conditions for artists of diverse latitudes to find a platform through GuatePhoto Festival to collaborate, promote their work, and exchange their ideas.

This is why starting November 12th, 2015 the cities of Antigua and Guatemala will be immersed in photography; exhibitions in museum, galleries, gardens, warehouses, streets, bus stations and public spaces will be flooded by the work of internationally acclaimed photographers and the best local talent.

There is no specific theme for the Open Call or festival. We accept proposals from all individual photographers or collectives of all nationalities.

CATEGORIES

There are 2 categories to participate in, based on what we consider to be the most relevant in contemporary image production:

PORTFOLIOS

We are looking for a series of 10 to 15 images. These images can range in style, categories include: artistic, documentary, journalistic, personal images or the mix of them. We are interested in bodies of work that contain a narrative, tell a story or convey a strong message.

We accept proposals that combine the image with other visual arts such as videos and installations that complement the work to be presented.

PHOTOBOOKS

We are looking for finished photobooks and dummies from individuals or publishers. They may be independent, commercial, published, self-published, or unpublished.

A hard copy must be sent before August 21st, 2015 to our offices.

FINALISTS

Of all the entries received at the Open Call, 15 artists and 30 photobooks will be selected from each category to exhibit. The work selected will showcase in two of the main exhibitions during GuatePhoto 2015, from November 12th to the 30th.

GuatePhoto will cover printing and exhibition expenses for all 15 finalists.

The selected series and photobooks will be announced on September 18, 2015 through this website.
