Portfolio Issue (no. 130, Winter 2015)

SHOTS Magazine announces an international call for photographic work to be considered for publication in the ANNUAL PORTFOLIO ISSUE (no. 130, Winter 2015). Subject matter is open. Submit a cohesive series or a selection of your best images. Selected photographers will be interviewed and have their work featured on at least four pages in this issue. Please visit the SHOTS website for further information and guidelines.

A well-established, independent, quarterly photography journal in its 29th year of publication, SHOTS Magazine reaches an international community of photographers, educators, galleries, museums, collectors and other fine art photography enthusiasts.

Submissions are accepted online or by mail (prints or CD).

CALLS FOR WORK are open to all photographers internationally. All processes and techniques are welcomed. Color work will be reproduced in black & white. Please follow guidelines closely.

ALL ENTRIES:
Send up to 12 images. No entry form is required, but please enclose a letter (or word document if submitting online) that includes your name, address, email, titles/captions, website, and any other information pertinent to your submittal. There are three ways to submit work: online, on a CD, or original prints.

TO SUBMIT FILES ONLINE:
SHOTS accepts files submitted online using wetransfer.com (a free service for files up to 2GB). Please use shots@shotsmag.com as the recipient address, and include your name in all files. Prepare your files per the specifications** and send them in a single compressed file (zip, rar, or sit). File size is likely to be somewhat large, so a high-speed internet connection is recommended. If you are not a current subscriber, please make your payment directly before or after sending your files. (Note: SHOTS does not review work on websites, and does not accept emailed files.)

TO SUBMIT FILES ON A CD:
Save files to a CD that is Windows/PC compatible. See file specifications below.**

TO SUBMIT PRINTS:
Send original prints, 8×10 or smaller, to the address above.

** FILE SPECIFICATIONS (for both CD and Online Submissions):
300 PPI JPEG files, sized to approximately 12” in the longest direction and saved to the highest quality possible. Please include your name and the title of the image in each file name (for example: First _Last_Title.jpg).

SUBMISSION FEES (for up to 12 images):

FREE for current, renewing and new subscribers (for subscription information, please visit the Order Page)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

If submitting work by mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) if you wish have your submission returned to you. All images may be kept on file for possible use in a future issue if not chosen for the issue they are submitted to—please indicate if you prefer otherwise.

As a way to promote the photographers presented in the pages of SHOTS, and to encourage dialogue between contributors, locations (city/state/country), e-mail addresses and website URL’s are typically printed. If you wish to have any or all of this information withheld, please indicate so. Also, photographs selected for SHOTS may be presented on the SHOTS website. If you do not wish to have your work shown on this site, please indicate so.
Although reasonable care will be exercised in the handling of photographs submitted for review, SHOTS is not held responsible for loss or any damage of submitted materials.

NOTIFICATION: Since all photographers submitting work per the guidelines will receive a copy of the magazine (and will thus see whether or not their work was included), letters of notification are not sent.

** Non-subscribers who choose to pay the Submission Fee will be sent one complimentary copy of the issue they submit work to.

This call for entry focuses on the depiction of inanimate subject matter, traditionally referred to as still life. More than other genres of photography, still life gives photographers greater latitude in achieving their final vision through the arrangement of objects and composition of design elements. Juror Russell Joslin also welcomes entries that expand or challenge what “still life” photography is, or can be.

Call  Opens: January 29th

Cost for Entry: $35 first 5 images, $10 each additional

Image Requirements: sRGB or RGB color space (standard); 72 ppi resolution; flatten layers 8 bit; 1280 pixels on the longest side; JPG format, compression level 8 (medium).

Russell Joslin has worked primarily in photography beginning in the early 90s. His work has been internationally published and exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. In addition to being a photographer, he is the Editor & Publisher of SHOTS Magazine, an independent, reader-supported quarterly journal of fine art photography that reaches an international audience.
