500X Gallery, Texas’ oldest, artist–run, cooperative galleries, hosts one of North Texas’ most anticipated annual juried competitions. Expo 2015 is open to all artists over the age of 18 living in Texas. All visual media are eligible, including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and video (artist must supply all required electronic equipment). All work must be ready to hang.

About the juror: Erin Cluley is the owner and director of Erin Cluley Gallery, a contemporary art gallery presenting a provocative program of emerging and mid-career artists from Dallas and the United States. Cluley opened the 2000 square foot space in September 2014, joining a creative movement in the West Dallas/ Trinity Groves development at the foot of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.  For five years prior to opening her gallery, Cluley served as the Director of Exhibitions for Dallas Contemporary where she worked on the production of exhibitions by widely known, and often envelope-pushing, artists including Rob Pruitt, Juergen Teller, K8 Hardy, Erwin Wurm, Jennifer Rubell, Shepard Fairey, Inez & Vinoodh, Julian Schnabel, Richard Phillips and others.  Cluley is a native of Wichita Falls, Texas where she received her BFA from Midwestern State University.  She went on to receive her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.

Artists may enter up to 3 images/videos (including details) for a total submission fee of $30.

Delivery of work is the responsibility of the artist and must be delivered on the designated dates, unless special arrangements are made. Work can be delivered on September 26th or 27th between 2 PM and 5 PM.

Artists will be notified via email Sunday, September 20th if the work has been accepted into the exhibition.  If you do not receive an email, your work has not been accepted. Please do not try to contact anyone if you do not receive notice.

The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) is pleased to announce the 2015 International Juried Exhibition—A Single Photograph Competition.

Approximately 40 juror –selected winners will be celebrated in the 2015 International Juried Exhibition in the CPA’s gallery at the historic Sunset Center in Carmel –by –the –Sea, California. These images will also be available for viewing on the CPA website, along with another 100 juror –selected photographs from among the submissions. Participation in the on –line gallery is optional. In addition, CPA will publish a print –on –demand catalog containing all 140 images chosen for inclusion in the gallery+online exhibitions.

Materials: Hard & Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition & Exhibition

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The Greater Denton Arts Council proudly presents the annualMaterials: Hard & Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition.

Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, Materials: Hard & Soft began in 1987 and was originally initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough. Now in its 29th year, the exhibition celebrates the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media.

Drawing hundreds of applications from across the United States annually, each year approximately 70 works are selected by an esteemed juror for exhibition at the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts. Of those selected, Juror Awards in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500 and $250 will be selected.

THIS YEAR’S JUROR

Elizabeth Kozlowski is the curator of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and has over 12 years of curatorial and gallery experience with a specialty in contemporary ceramics. Prior to joining HCCC, Kozlowski served as the Windgate Curatorial Fellow at Arizona State University Art Museum. During her time at ASU, she co-curated a national traveling exhibition,Crafting a Continuum: Rethinking Contemporary Craft. In 2010, she organized two major exhibitions for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts Conference. She has also acted as Assistant Preparator for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and as the Gallery Director for Florida Craftsmen, Inc. Kozlowski has a Masters with Honors in museum studies through the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University and a BFA in studio art-ceramics from Florida Atlantic University.

AWARDS

The Greater Denton Arts Council will provide Juror Awards in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500 and $250. Winners will be determined by the juror, on site, after the accepted works are received at the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts.

HOW TO ENTER

To be considered for the 2016 exhibition, entries must be received by September 4, 2015. An online submission form is available HERE. If you would prefer to submit entries via mail, please contact exhibit@dentonarts.com for instructions.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES

Each artist is limited to three (3) entries.

ENTRY FEE

There is a $40 non-refundable fee, for up to three (3) entries. Payments must be submitted online at the time of application.

ELIGIBLE MEDIA

Works produced in any of the craft media: clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, wood, or any combination of craft media, are acceptable. Entries must be the complete work of the submitted artist. Kits or commercially designed works will not be accepted. All work must have been completed within the past two years (2013-2015) and not previously exhibited at the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts. Artists must reside in the United States.

SIZE LIMITATIONS

All work must be ready for installation. Submissions are restricted to a weight limit of NO MORE THAN 75 POUNDS. GDAC reserves the right to exclude any entry that presents complex exhibition or assembly problems.

SALES

A 30% commission will be retained from all work sold during the exhibition. Works which are not for sale must be clearly marked as such (NFS).

PUBLICITY

The exhibition will be publicized regionally and nationally. GDAC reserves the right to photograph any accepted work for the purpose of publicity.

LIABILITY

Entries will be insured by GDAC while in its custody (eligible time frame laid out in the artist contract) provided the artist has declared an insurance value not to exceed 70% of the selling price. Insurance value for pieces NFS should reflect fair market value.

DELIVERY & RETURN OF WORK

Artists are responsible for pre-paying all shipping charges to and from the exhibition site. Accepted works must be hand-delivered or shipped according to the instructions provided in the Artist Contract upon selection.

AGREEMENT

No work may be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition. Sending an entry to this exhibition shall imply an agreement on the part of the sender to all conditions above.

Elizabeth Avedon is an independent curator and book + exhibition designer. The former Director of Photo-Eye Gallery, Santa Fe and Creative Director for The Gere Foundation, she has received awards and recognition for her exhibition design and publishing projects, including the retrospective exhibition and book: Avedon: 1949–1979 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many others. She recently curated the exhibitions of Nicholas Vreeland and Magdalena Solé at New York’s Leica Gallery. Elizabeth is a regular contributor to L’Oeil de la Photographie.

HONORS | AWARDS
All selected artists are invited to join us at the reception with Elizabeth Avedon. An international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography will view the chosen artist’s work throughout the exhibition. Each participant is included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition in Fort Collins, Colorado and Online Gallery exhibition.

Founded in 2004 by photographers, The Center for Fine Art Photography is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) photography organization. We provide support to photographic artists through exhibition, solo exhibition, promotion, portfolio reviews, publication, education and connection to a large community of other artists, curators, gallery owners and photographic professionals. Eligibility: Our calls for entry are open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate.
Exhibit Prints: In order to be included in the online gallery or to receive an award, you must provide a professionally printed and framed/mounted image for gallery exhibition. The Center recognizes that some work is non traditional and incorporates the framing as an integral part of the presentation. To encourage participation by photographers from around the world, the Center offers optional, professional, printing and framing services. Additional details will be provided upon request.
Acceptance Notice: Everyone who submits will receive an email notification of which images were accepted. Accepted images will be posted on the Center’s website.

USE RIGHTS: Each artist retains all copyrights to their own images. Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant The Center for Fine Art Photography the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, promoting the Center’s programs, promoting exhibitions and subsequent display on the Center’s website of current and past exhibitions. ABOUT

Renewed, inspired and stronger, the International Festival of Photography GuatePhoto reaches its third edition, now with a wider scope and participatory.

The cities of Guatemala and Antigua Guatemala will become during the month of November 2015 in scenarios dedicated to contemporary photographic creation; gathering the talent of established and emergent artists, critics, cultural agents, institutions and the general public.

GuatePhoto International Festival of Photography aims to educate, promote, document and celebrate contemporary photography through diverse exhibitions, artist talks, portfolios reviews and other dynamic events and positions itself as one of Latin America’s top photography festivals.

We are experiencing a fortunate moment for the arts and photography in Guatemala with the emergence of new talents, young aesthetics, transgressive ideas and fresh spaces. These happenings have paved the way to generate the ideal conditions for artists of diverse latitudes to find a platform through GuatePhoto Festival to collaborate, promote their work, and exchange their ideas.

This is why starting November 12th, 2015 the cities of Antigua and Guatemala will be immersed in photography; exhibitions in museum, galleries, gardens, warehouses, streets, bus stations and public spaces will be flooded by the work of internationally acclaimed photographers and the best local talent.

There is no specific theme for the Open Call or festival. We accept proposals from all individual photographers or collectives of all nationalities.

CATEGORIES

There are 2 categories to participate in, based on what we consider to be the most relevant in contemporary image production:

PORTFOLIOS

We are looking for a series of 10 to 15 images. These images can range in style, categories include: artistic, documentary, journalistic, personal images or the mix of them. We are interested in bodies of work that contain a narrative, tell a story or convey a strong message.

We accept proposals that combine the image with other visual arts such as videos and installations that complement the work to be presented.

PHOTOBOOKS

We are looking for finished photobooks and dummies from individuals or publishers. They may be independent, commercial, published, self-published, or unpublished.

A hard copy must be sent before August 21st, 2015 to our offices.

FINALISTS

Of all the entries received at the Open Call, 15 artists and 30 photobooks will be selected from each category to exhibit. The work selected will showcase in two of the main exhibitions during GuatePhoto 2015, from November 12th to the 30th.

GuatePhoto will cover printing and exhibition expenses for all 15 finalists.

The selected series and photobooks will be announced on September 18, 2015 through this website.

Nighttime photography; delve into the darkest hours to uncover secrets and mysteries.

Photographers have long embraced the literary and artistic tradition of the night as theme and subject in their work. The romantic notions and sense of mystery associated with the night, and the transformation from the mundane world to the unknown provide ample material for photographers to explore through their work.

Tim Baskerville, founder of the night photography organization, The Nocturnes, has said, “Surrealism, the mystery of place, solitude, and a heightened sense of the nature of things – night photography seems a worthy vehicle, a ritual to express these themes.”

Juror, Lance Keimig states, “The night holds secrets- secrets that may engage our curiosity, shelter us, or frighten us. There are those who seek comfort in the night and those who recoil from it. Brave was the ancestor who stepped outside of the fire circle for he might never return. The interplay of light, shadow, and extremes of contrast heighten this uncertainty – and when the element of time is added in the form of long exposures, the Night Photograph is indeed a worthy vehicle to express these themes.”

Darkroom Gallery is calling for nighttime imagery that conveys mystery, surrealism, isolation, loneliness, and time/timelessness.

Eligibility: All photographers of all age and skill levels are welcome to submit.

Requirements:
Entrants must be at least 18 years old. If you are younger. you must have a parent or legal guardian make the submission for you.

All submitted photos must have been taken by the photographer making the entry. If you are a parent or legal guardian submitting for a minor, please make it clear who you are actually submitting for.

Images may not have been exhibited at the Darkroom Gallery within the last year.

All submissions must be made by digital files through upload on DarkroomGallery.com or sent via email to submissions@DarkroomGallery.com along with an application form. There is a $5.00 surcharge for email entries.

Images should be as large as possible but no larger than 1280 pixels on the longest side, type jpg – set to the highest quality. The color space should be set to sRGB. DPI is only relevant for output purposes and does not effect the stored size of the image. It can be set to any number, but if you must specify something go with 72 dpi.

Up to four images may be submitted for a non-refundable fee of $24 US for on-line submission and $29 for email submission. Additional images may be submitted for an additional $5 US per image.

Images must be received by midnight EST on the submission closing date for the exhibition you are submitting for.

Payment must be received by the close of submissions for the exhibit you are submitting for.

Awards:

All selected entries are exhibited in our gallery and included in a full color exhibit catalog.

Juror’s Choice receives a 30×48″ vinyl exhibit banner featuring their image, free entry into a future exhibition, and a free exhibition catalog.

Honorable Mentions receive free exhibition catalogs and free entry in a future exhibition.

People’s Choice gains free entry into a future exhibit.

We offer free matting and framing of accepted entries for the duration of each of our exhibition, subject to standard sizes.

Photographers set their own prices if they wish to sell their work and retain all rights to their photographs.

Considerations

Juror: Lance Keimig

Lance Keimig is best known for his night photographs, which are often made at the juncture of the built and natural environments. His book, Night Photography- Finding Your Way In The Dark was published by Focal Press in August of 2010, and has been translated into 6 languages. A revised and expanded second edition was published in July of 2015.

He has taught at the New England School of Photography in Boston since 2000, and has also taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, The Houston Center for Photography, and leads independent workshops across the country. Russell Brown, senior creative director for Adobe, said that Keimig may well be “one of the finest photography instructors on the planet.”

Keimig is a frequent speaker and workshop instructor for photographic events around the country. He has presented and taught at the Photo Plus Expo in New York, and was a featured speaker and workshop instructor at Estudio Brasil in Sa Paulo, Brazil. He has lectured and taught for the Scottish Photographers Association in Glasgow, The School of Visual Arts in NY, B&H Event Space, and The New England Camera Club Council among others.

Keimig continues to teach night photography and light painting workshops around the country, and also leads photo tours to Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, and Cuba. His work has taken him to such far flung places as Zimbabwe where he did documentary photography for a medical mission, the Philippines to photograph a museum collection, and Japan where he photographed Buddhist temples. His photographs are held in numerous collections including The Art Complex Museum In Duxbury, MA, The Boston Athenaeum, The Boston Public Library, and the The Grace Museum in Abilene, TX.

Evaluation Criteria

Once submission for an exhibit closes, all entries are submitted to the Juror for that exhibit anonymously. The juror will not know the name of the photographer or if two photos were taken by the same photographer. Jurors are charged with selecting about 45 entries for display in the Darkroom Gallery, in Essex Jct. Vermont. Jurors have sole discretion as to their selections. Please do not attempt to contact jurors to influence their choices. Doing so will disqualify your entry. Our goal is to announce the selected entries for each exhibit within seven days of the submission close date. This will be by email and on the Darkroom Gallery web site.
