Congratulations to Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Ashley Whitt, for her recent solo exhibition, The Haunted Mind, at the Lillian Bradshaw Gallery in the Dallas Public Library. The exhibition ran from March 2 – March 28, 2015.

The Haunted Mind is an on-going series of self-portraits exploring themes of grief, duality, and psychological states. An alternative photographic process called dass transfer is used to create distortion and blurring within the images.

There is also an accompanying musical piece titled “SheIsWaitingInTheWoods” by Dan Bernardo.

Ashley graduated from Texas Woman’s University where she earned her MFA in Photography in 2012. She graduated from UT Arlington with a BFA in Photography in 2009. Ashley currently adjuncts in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for Dallas County and Collin County Community Colleges.

Congratulations to Texas Woman’s University Alumna, Kalee Appleton, for having five pieces from her series, Bit Rot, in the group exhibition, A Flexible Arrangement, at Gray Matters Gallery in Dallas, Texas. Curated by Nathan Green, this exhibition includes an impressive lineup of artists working in photography, including: Sterling Allen, Josh Rios, Barry Stone, Kevin Todora, and Casey James Wilson.

Of Nature presents an overview of photographers who take inspiration from the natural world. From an emphasis on scientific phenomena and the recording of flora and fauna, to fictional images of natural phenomena, these artists reveal to us the power of observation and our relationship to our environment. Exhibiting artists include Lucas Foglia, Tom Chambers, Camille Solyagua, John Pfahl, Zeke Berman, Steve Goff, Robert Langham III, Laszlo Layton, and Kate Breakey.

Existential Virtuality, Dallas Medianale | McKinney Avenue Contemporary

On Saturday, February 28, 2015, the Dallas Medianale will present its grand finale at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, curated by Carolyn Sortor.

The program, titled Existential Virtuality, comprises two blocks – one of which will screen twice (yielding 3 screening start times) – comprising exciting, recent works by internationally-known artists.

The longer block comprises a number of shorter pieces, including the video that won Laure Prouvost the Turner Prize in 2013 and a piece by Cécile B. Evans just reviewed in this month’s ArtForum, among other works.  This block will screen twice, first at 5:45pm and then again at 8:15pm.

The shorter block consists of a single, 30-min. video by My Barbarian, which was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and which will screen at 7:15pm.

McDermott Internships | Dallas Museum of Art

Synopsis:

Each year the Dallas Museum of Art offers nine paid internship positions—four in the Museum’s Education Department and five in the Curatorial Department—open to individuals with undergraduate or graduate degrees who are interested in exploring museum careers.

Established in 1974, the McDermott Internship Program allows Interns to work closely with staff throughout the Museum and provides opportunities for individual contributions, resulting in an in-depth and well-rounded perspective on museum work. In addition to their daily Museum duties that comprise a full time work week, McDermott Interns are also able to explore Dallas’s rich cultural scene through performances, museum visits, and collection tours arranged by the Museum. Interns are also able to request $500 toward qualified professional development to be completed during their tenure.

2015 Student Art Contest Guidelines
Theme – Explore Your World with DART

Show us some of the unique places you’ve discovered riding DART – or the destinations you have yet to explore.

CONTEST RULES

1. Designs must be original work created by the student and should illustrate the theme
“Explore Your World with DART.” Contest open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Limit one entry per
student.

2. Entries must measure 11” high x 17” wide, and the design should be laid out horizontally. The back of the entry should
include: Student’s name, grade level, school name and teacher’s name.

3. Entries due by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 and should be mailed or personally delivered to: Jessica D. Lennon,
