SPESC ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS:
Applications for SPESC Assistance Grants for Adjunct Instructors to support attendance at the 2015 SPE National Conference at in New Orleans, LA, March 12-15.
PURPOSE:
SPESC offers assistance grants in the amount of $600 for adjunct instructors to encourage participation in SPE. The money is awarded to adjunct instructors specifically to help defray travel expenses to attend the conference.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any current SPE member who is employed during the 2014-2015 school year as an adjunct instructor in the South Central region may apply for an SPESC assistance grant. Preference will be given to those adjuncts who can articulately demonstrate their interest in attending the conference with a history of involvement with SPE. Additional preference will be given to members who have been accepted to present at the conference. Members who received the grant within the last year are not eligible.
DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT:
Colleagues who are willing to be a reference for the applicant are not required to provide written letters of support. However, they should be notified and willing to support the applications as a reference. Applicants must provide accurate contact information including name, title, phone, and email. If needed, regional board members will contact faculty to confirm applications.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Please follow the guidelines exactly so that application is not disqualified:
- Members must compose a formal letter of application. This letter should detail their teaching experience, their involvement with SPE, their other related activities, and should state why they should be awarded a grant.
- Be sure to include the information for the colleague that is providing a departmental reference (name, title, phone, and email).
- Please include in the document a direct link to one Image Gallery on your spenational.org profile.
- You will need to be a current member to create and link to a gallery.
- The URL in your application should link directly to the gallery.
- Gallery must be made public.
- Applications that do not link directly to an SPE Member Gallery will not be considered.

SPE South Central invites applications for scholarships to support student attendance at the 2015 SPE National Conference at in New Orleans, LA, March 12-15.

There is NO THEME The HAND Magazine is printed IN COLOR!! Black and white and monochrome images are also accepted and will be printed accordingly. Any subject matter is acceptable, but all images must be done in a photographic or printed media only. No more than 5 images per submission, please. We are also accepting articles that describe a contemporary body of photographic or printmaking work or a recent or current exhibition featuring primarily works in those media. Art criticism is also welcome. You must include 4 images with your article with contact information/ releases from artists whose work you include. New! If two or more individuals living at the same address all wish to submit but do not want multiple copies of the magazine, they may do so by simply paying the single submission fee and each submitting images UP TO A TOTAL OF 5 IMAGES PER FEE. Please indicate this in the “notes to seller” prompt during the PayPal process and/or make a note of this in the email in which you send the images. From front stoops to back alleys, subways to suburbia, Main Street to Wall Street, the streets we call home shape us.
Show us what’s going on where you live, work, or play. Street scenes, portraits, landscapes — we want to see what makes your neighborhood what it is.
We are very pleased that James Blair will be juror for this exhibition. Jim will choose 40 photographs for exhibition in the gallery, and an additional 35 for the gallery’s Online Annex. All 75 photographs will be reproduced in an exhibition catalog.
Submit 5 images for $30; $7 each additional.
About the Juror:
Jim Blair was a staff photographer at National Geographic for 32 years. Between 1962 and 1994, the magazine published 46 of his bylines and over 2,000 of his photographs. His work took him throughout much of the world, and to countless neighborhoods.
Jim studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Today his photographs are represented in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery , the Museum of Modern Art, the Portland (Maine) Museum of Art, and the Carnegie Museum of Art . Since retiring from the National Geographic Society in 1994, Jim has continued to photograph, teach, and lecture. He is represented by both Getty Images, and the National Geographic Society’s Image Collection.
Details on Submitting Your Work:
To help artists defray costs and to encourage submissions from distant photographers, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes. Custom mat sizes and printing services are also available at moderate additional cost.
All selected work will be included in an exhibition catalog, available for purchase.
